Robinlee Garber started out from New York, explored other cities &amp; states while also exploring careers in creating art, stage production, and clinical art therapy, but she found home in Chicago, where she also found found fulfillment in adding music performance to her art therapy work. Her musical passions are life-long, centering around folk, blues, jazz, and what she calls torch-folk, although she only began performing music professionally in the last 15 years or so. She has released two albums, one of torch/jazz standards, and the other of folk/singer-songwriter character, with many more of her songs ready for studio recording when the opportunity presents itself. Robinlee GarberThe  Chicago/Berwyn music scene is blessed with some of the finest Women  singer/songwriters in the United States and Robinlee is a perfect  example of what I am talking about. She has honed her craft and  consistantly delivers great performances. This Podcast and the attendant  videos from the show will prove that to all. Take a listen and go see  her perform live. You will love it.Robinlee's videos from the Podcast Robinlee  Garber was born in Philadelphia and spent her early years listening to  and being influenced by her parents' music which predominantly featured  Frank Sinatra and other singers of the Great American Songbook. In high  school she became inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Carole  King, Jackson Browne, Rickie Lee Jones, and Elvis Costello.   As a  child Robinlee always felt different as she struggled with chronic  health issues but found solace in creating art and music. She studied  figure drawing and glass sculpture at Carnegie-Mellon University in  Pittsburgh, PA, and she won a glass blowing scholarship at the Pilchuck  School of Glass in Seattle after graduation. Not feeling entirely  satisfied with creating her own art for art's sake, Robinlee did what  she calls artist activist work, and then she ultimately got another full  scholarship to earn her Masters degree in Art Therapy at University of  Illinois at Chicago.   Since then Robinlee has worked  professionally as a creative arts therapist and clinical counselor using  music and art to help others heal. Robinlee has been a featured  performer several times on WDCB's  Folk Festival with Lilli Kuzma, she  is the music director of Culture Cafe for the widely popular Chicago  VeganMania festival, runs a well-attended open mic in Chicago, and has  also played her music across the US, Canada, Sweden and Finland. This is  Robinlee's first solo album, and she is looking forward to sharing her  music and her message of hope and resilience with everyone.

I fell in love with this lady's beautiful voice the first time I heard it. Robinlee Garber came into the studio and, as you will hear listening to this Podcast,  absolutely blew me away. During the interview I was fascinated to learn  about the role of the "Expressive Therapist" in a clinical setting.She  is blessed with the joy of using her wonderful voice as a tool for her  work. As you will read below, she helps people through trying times in  their lives.Well, now she finds herself in trying times. Her  sweet companion "Mercy" had to have emergency cancer surgery. Mercy has  survived the surgery and now Robinlee has to deal with the costs of that  decision. As you know, I lost my Buffy this year and, for her, surgery  was not an option. She is an  expert at working with groups to create murals, group and individual art  projects, music-making experiences, and just having a great time  exploring personal and group creativity.   Robinlee will perform  solo and/or with other musical and artistic professionals just about  anywhere, at any time, and for any occasion. These days she is singing  and playing guitar weekly at various assisted living and memory care  programs around the Chicagoland Area, specializing in acoustic jazz and  folk music. She also plays daily at Linden Oaks Hospital, and her  expressive therapy group has been dubbed "the Frank Sinatra Hootenanny"  for its emphasis on music from the 20's, 30's, and 40's.  Robinlee also lends her talents and support to volunteer with the  not-for-profit Practice With A Purpose (a program affiliated with  Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music), a group that performs music  for patients, families, and residents at hospitals and nursing homes in  and around Chicago.View all Robinlee Garber videos
