A pioneer in refractive surgery, in 1988 Dr McDonald performed the world’s first excimer laser surgery for myopia on a sighted eye, and then in 1993 she performed the world’s first hyperopic excimer laser treatment. She subsequently performed the first wavefront treatment excimer treatment in the Americas. A sought-after lecturer, she now practices with Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island and holds clinical professorships at both the NYU School of Medicine in New York and Tulane University in New Orleans.
