Mental health isn't something to take lightly, and through Lauren's story, our goal is that you know you're not alone and are able to take the steps to get the help you need.  Throughout our conversation, we discuss:  Why it's important to treat yourself like a best friend or a child The longest relationship you have in life is with yourself Living your life for you and not for others Putting your needs at the forefront before it's too late   Lauren Marcinkowski (she/her) is a music therapist, educator, mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend--and now former teacher. Her passions are around creating empathy for all students and people through promoting self-awareness and understanding of ourselves so that we can more fully accept others in our lives. Lauren is also passionate about mental health and advocating for this. Lauren is currently at home now with her 1 year old son, Jace, and is working on her website, "The Empathetic Teacher.com." She enjoys spending free time exercising, reading, playing with Jace and her husband and exploring the libraries in their county. 195- Mental Health in Life and Teaching with Lauren Marcinkowski

In this episode I share my conversation with Lauren Marcinkowski about the intersections between music education and music therapy. Lauren Marcinkowski is a PA, K-12 certified music teacher and board-certified music therapist. She also has Pennsylvania certifications in special education and elementary education. Lauren lives in Bucks County, PA, which is in the greater Philadelphia area. Lauren is currently serving as a Special Education teacher in Bucks County. Previously, she was a music teacher for an educational agency which services students with special needs in alternative settings. She taught students of all abilities from grades K to 12 and older. Lauren loves teaching and is passionate about advocating for all students, especially those most who struggle advocating for themselves. Lauren is a wife, a mother to a baby boy, and a proud wife to an incredible husband who is a special education teacher himself. She has two wonderful parents, and two amazing sisters and one brother. Lauren's brother and uncle lived with her while growing up, and both have diagnoses of intellectual disabilities and autism. Growing up with them has given her a unique insight to unique challenges that families with children who have disabilities face.
