Today on the show I speak to Jenny Blyth. Jenny is a birth worker and educator and author of The Down To Earth Birth Book. Jenny had her first child back in 1979 and it was really interesting to hear what her journey for pregnancy and birth was like back then. Her first birth a hospital birth and last two were freebirths at home. Her approach to doing something that was seemingly “radical” was just so gentle, calm and normal. I sometimes find in the birth world that we can have a tendency to be “fighting for our rights” (and with good reason too) - but maybe there is another way? A simpler way? That doesn’t include fighting or asking permission. Simply by being and doing. We also talk about Jenny’s work in Laos, people using freebirth as a scapegoat, her advice for birth preparation, community birth and I also hear about the body work that she does. What I like about Jenny is her ability to have things flow and not be forceful in her approach to life - while still getting things done! Truly embracing her feminine energy! Her bodywork practice specialises in pelvic bodywork for wellbeing, balance, comfort and healing. Jenny has been teaching body-oriented Birthwork workshops to professionals, bodyworkers and parents for over 15 years, both in Australia and overseas, often co-teaching with Fiona Hallinan for the ‘Creative Ways of Making Space for Babies’ Workshop Series. Jenny is also project co-ordinator for Lao Birthwork, teaching hands-on and emergency skills to health staff in remote areas of Northern Laos.She lives in the Australian bush with her partner.
