Dylan, TEDx speaker and addiction recovery advocate, has made it his mission to work with individuals and organizations to increase engagement in the addiction recovery process and improve long-term outcomes. In recovery since 2004, he reflects on his mental health challenges as an adolescent, when depression and suicidal ideation consumed his early teenage years. Later, what began as a night of drinking in college to numb his emotional pain, eventually ended after many years with a stint in the county jail where he decided to begin his much-needed sobriety journey. Today, by reflecting on purpose and value, he empowers individuals to embrace recovery and access ways to live a fun, healthy, authentic lifestyle while pursuing their dreams and goals: moving from dealing with life to enjoying life! Dylan is a TEDx Speaker and Addiction Recovery Advocate. His mission is to work with individuals and organizations to increase engagement in the addiction recovery process and improve long-term outcomes. He also likes to dance and do karaoke.      In Dylan's words:        "Addiction is a chronic state of isolation, disconnection, and suppression. We can liken it to living in the dark. When we are living in the dark, we are living in an absence of light; of information. Expression is the road on which we reconnect to ourselves and the world. It’s the way in which we turn the lights back on. By creating a safe culture for authentic expression, we make it possible for therapeutic experiences to occur. These experiences, grounded in self-expression, and contained in a safe way, drastically improve metrics associated with recovery: connection, vitality, wellbeing." 3 top tips for my audience: 1. Expression is the antidote to suppression (and disconnection) 2. Expression happens in the body, not the mind  3.
