Norman Myers of Friends of the Blue Ridge stopped by the office to discuss his involvement in the organization, some challenges the organization faces, and a few projects currently being worked on. Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains (FBRM) was formed as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2007 in response to the recognized threat to the mountains from development, and environmental deterioration. FBRM is the only conservation organization in the region with the Blue Ridge Mountains as its focus. Norman Myers | Friends of The Blue Ridge

Norman Myers was born in Clitheroe, Lancashire and attended Keble College in Oxford. He is a British environmentalist and authority on biodiversity and is a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences. He is currently a professor and Visiting Fellow at Green College in Oxford, and holds visiting professorships at UC Berkeley, Harvard, Cornell and Stanford. Myers has studied the mass extinction of species and problems of tropical deforestation and through his research eventually developed the concept of biodiversity hotspots.
