Allison Zopel was born and raised in central Wisconsin to a deeply musical family. Along with her three siblings, she became fluent in an impressive range of instruments, soon growing an evolving love for the piano. By the age of 17, Allison had begun composing her first original songs on the piano. At the age of 20, Allison was involved in a serious car accident, which resulted in severe brain injuries and soon after, a coma. It was during the next five years she spent coming out of a coma, that 12 of the 14 songs on “Music from Within” were composed. “The music that comes through me is an expression of my soul,” says Allison. “And the simplicity of the music, I hope and feel will give people the time and space that we all need in order to slow down, and let what’s inside of us truly emerge." She has spent the past six years speaking with other coma and brain injury survivors, their friends and families, and health care professionals who work with people in coma and TBI recovery. She is the author of The Angel Inside, which shares about her personal experience through coma and brain injury. She has recently founded The Return to Life Foundation in hopes of continuing her work in assisting people who are recovering from a coma and brain injuries. She wants to create the awareness, environment, and support she wishes she (and many others and their families) had during her recovery. Throughout the years she spent coming out of a coma, many musical compositions emerged that gave birth to her CD Music From Within.
