The year 2020 marked a very important milestone for the United Nations— its 75th anniversary. Overshadowed in many ways by the catastrophic effects of the global pandemic and an apparent backstep in global cooperation, this momentous occasion served as a stark reminder of the need for increased multilateralism. A reminder that, while the 75 years of accomplishments by the UN have been noble and great, there is still much work to be done. In this episode we will explore what the UN has done right, how they got some things wrong and where they are going next with a very special guest: Under Secretary General at the United Nations, Fabrizio Hochschild. The UN Turns 75: What Next? with USG Fabrizio Hochschild

Le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies, Antonio Guterres, a lancé il y a un an, à l'occasion du 75e anniversaire de l'ONU, une vaste consultation mondiale sur l’avenir du monde que nous voulons. Durant l'année 2020, et malgré la Covid-19, plus d’1.5 million de personnes issues de 195 pays ont participé à cette consultation inédite.    L’heure est maintenant de tirer les enseignements. Alors que la pandémie a creusé les inégalités, une majorité de répondants ont donné la priorité à court terme à l’accès aux services de base et aux soins de santé pour tous. Le sondage met aussi en avant l’importance donnée par les citoyens aux questions d’environnement et de lutte contre le réchauffement climatique, ainsi que le besoin d’une approche multilatérale pour faire face aux crises globales. Pour évoquer les résultats de cette consultation et tirer le bilan de ce 75e anniversaire, l'invité cette semaine est Fabrizio Hochschild, Secrétaire général adjoint des Nations Unies et Conseiller spécial du Secrétaire général pour les préparatifs de la célébration de cet anniversaire.
