Bio Emanuel   Washington is a business founder, filmmaker, and creative voice. His work has   included piecing together a number of spiritual/poetry shows in his   Jacksonville, Florida community and building platforms to share information to   preserve the history and legacy of the human experience. Washington’s latest   feat is the documentation and production of his film, “Oh Happy Day: The   Journey of a Song,” that is set to be released summer of 2020. This exertion started   for him four years ago through his enjoyment for traveling music concerts.   His festive experiences were cultivating his desire to record and document   the song. Over the course of his journey from then to now, he has blossomed   enough passion and garnered enough support to execute his vision. With a   film crew of names such as Maxie Coleman (Co-producer), J. West   (Videographer), Anthye Heard (Videographer), Jose Lopez (Cinematographer), Janice   Bradley (Administrative Assistant), and Tiffany Overby (Administrative Assistant),   along with an illustrative movie trailer and cinematography clips, Washington   is well on his way to finishing up his work by his 2019 production   deadline. “Oh Happy   Day” will document its therapeutic properties, impact on contemporary   culture, and ability to furnish peace in the world. It will also show how the   song has deeply influenced Washington’s life and the world around him. He is   among the most acclaimed filmmakers in the Jacksonville area and looks forward   to getting the world onboard for his joyful journey that is to awaken the   cheerful soul of humanity. It’s a “Happy Day” with week’s guest is a film-maker and history buff, Emanuel Washington, who joins Damien and Blue in the studio as discusses his new film documentary about the creator of the gospel classic “Oh Happy Day: The Journey of a Song” by the godfather of contemporary gospel music Edwin Hawkins. About Emanuel WashingtonSince 1999 Emanuel Washington and his partner, Tiffany Duhart, have been working to bring exposure and promote the cultural arts entertainment in Jacksonville through their company, Nokturnal Escape, LLC. For Emanuel, it really began when he noticed that there was a missing audience at events that were of artistic value. The desire to spread the word became his mission and with this came the creation of Jacksonville’s biggest and longest-running spoken-word and live music event, Soul Release. Emanuel has also produced plays from local writers, fashion show after parties and historic parties for regional and national artists. As Nokturnal Escape grew, they began to provide marketing services to companies like the Florida Black Expo, the St. Augustine Amphitheater, the Ritz Theater the Florida Theater Florida State College of Jacksonville Broadway productions of Drumline Live, The Color Purple and more. In 2012 Emanuel filmed and produced a documentary entitled “We remember Raines, an American high school” which was screened at the Auburn African-American Library in Atlanta, Georgia.Currently, Emanuel is the Creative Director of a literacy program entitled “Before e-mail: A reader’s theater production.” After creating “Before e-mail,” the program was presented during the second year of One Spark crowdfunding event. It was also highlighted in an ARBUS article entitled “20 Set to Shine.” As a result, the program was picked up by the Jacksonville Public Library and featured live performances at various library branches. Emanuel Washington is currently working on his next film and is proud to be joining the board of DieRections, Inc. He discovered that he had met Loutricia Gebbs-Tolbert, the Director, at an earlier session of Soul Release Poetry.
