Episode 046: Nerissa Velten, Midwife | Helping You Have The Birth You Desire | Midwife Model Based On Fact That Pregnancy And Birth Are Normal Life Processes So long as there is no medical reason to be in a clinical environment (i.e. hospital) for a birth, a Midwife is an incredible option.  Nerissa Velten is one of the very very few certified Midwive’s in the State of California. Nerissa gets involved at any time during the pregnancy, but typically from the beginning as part of an overall birth plan for the mother. In past births, the whole family gets involved.  It really sounds incredible. During the pregnancy, Nerissa comes to you for your regular check in appoints, pre-conception care, prenatal care, and post birth for breastfeeding support.  All the way through. Nerissa talks about how all of her clients have moved her emotionally, but is specifically proud of those women she has helped that have previously had a cesarean section. The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. As you will hear on this Episode, Nerissa doesn’t just stop there.  She also volunteers with Midwives For Haiti and the Haiti Healthcare Partners doing missionary Midwifery work in those areas of the world to help safe births and the training of those there.
