I met Ruby Leigh about 4 years ago through the Former Fundamentalist support group here in Minnesota. She actually lived with me and my partner for half a year at one point! She is an avid runner of long distances and teacher of mathematics.  Her life began in a 3rd generation evangelical christian household, and for the first 25 years she possessed this belief, too.  Unpacking the belief system of Christianity, led to questioning most of the things we as a society accept.  This has been a process that has taken years, footnoted with several moments where it looked pretty expedited to the outside world.  Divorce, moves, change of career and other relationships all seem like scary things, and have come with their own outside judgement and personal challenges... but she can tell you without hesitation that it's all been worth the reward of finding her own autonomy.   ***Now that we’ve begun to process our history with toxic religion, we seek to regain autonomy over our minds and bodies from residual narratives, whether cultural or religious; while working towards respecting and empowering the autonomy of others.
