We're doing something a little bit different today on In Focus. Our guest, Roz Warne, has only been in Leitrim a handful of hours and probably hadn't even heard of the county the day before.  But over the next few days will be seeing more of the county than most of the people born and bred here ever will as she walks the length of the Leitrim Way from Battlebridge near Leitrim Village through Drumshanbo and on to Dowra as part of her assault on the entire Beara Breifne Way and the Ulster Way.  The Beara Breifne Way is Ireland’s longest national waymarked trail. The route has been created by local communities in a unique collaboration. It follows the legendary fourteen-day march taken by Dónal Cam O’Sullivan Beare and his one thousand supporters from Glengarriff on the Beara Peninsula to Leitrim Village, in 1602/03, and it visits many of the places and communities shaped by their story.  The Way runs almost the length of the country and takes the walker and cyclist to some of its most beautiful and least explored areas in Ireland.  Having completed the journey in 2017, Breifne sits with Roz to discuss the trail, and her motivations for leaving her working life in Sydney, Australia and taking to the hills, mountains and rivers of Ireland to relive over 400 years of history.
