Stonington Cox “Stoney” likes to say that he discovered Coliving by accident. He bought his first condo while still in college and while he loved investing in and improving it, he discovered that living solo sucks, and that life is better lived together with others. So he set an intention to combine his love of investing with his love of people to help create better collaborative housing concepts than those that had come before.The career idea was to learn the investment business working at top tier firms in brokerage, investment banking, merchant banking and private equity at GMAC, Macquarie Capital, Accord Group, and Cadre all the while continuing to explore and refine a thesis around which collaborative living models seemed to work the best. This inquiry led him down paths first in Cohousing (development of for sale condos for pre-formed communities) on the property side and then toward angel investing in pioneering Coliving companies like OpenDoor, Outsite, and Ollie. He is a Board Member for OpenDoor, one of the pioneering Coliving operators based in Oakland and a Senior Advisor to Six Peak Capital, a Coliving focused private equity real estate firm based in New York City. Not that it matters much, but he has degrees from Georgetown, Columbia Business School, and Insead.
