This week’s guest is Montay Fowler. Montay was born &amp; raised in Philadelphia and is a graduate of Temple University and UPenn’s Masters of Social Work program. The last time we interviewed in Montay in June 2020, we discussed his personal journey into social work and the systematic &amp; personal implications related to the Black Lives Matter Movement. Since then, he has moved to Atlanta to pursue a director of student engagement position, and was recently featured in Voyage ATL as a Rising Star of the Atlanta community. If you have family members upholding systems of white supremacy, or have friends with racist beliefs, but you do nothing about it, I think you're further contributing to the problem.” - Montay Fowler Montay Fowler (@Montayf_) is the co-founder of non-profit initiative Project Pledge Philly (ipledgephl), a MSW graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, and a well-recognized leader in the communities of Philadelphia for his civic engagement and services. In this episode, we discuss the importance of recognizing one’s privilege, the contexts of systematic racism, and other wide-ranging conversations related to the Black Lives Matter movement. This episode focuses on these macro issues and how they have attributed to Montay’s adolescent years in the child welfare system and education experiences.
