You've gotta represent for the home grown talent...On this episode we sit down with writer/director Laura Adamo to talk about her debut feature 'The Wishing Tree' which is hitting VOD platforms tomorrow.It's a story of disappointment and pain, Julia (Adamo) leaves behind her crumbling marriage and sets off alone on an arduous hiking expedition in a quest for answers, healing and peace—searching for the fabled Wishing Tree, believed to bring good fortune to those who come to ask. On the trail, Julia encounters Caleb (Roberts) and Ryan (Vincent) lost in the woods, both struggling with their own demons of denied sexuality and addiction. Thrown together unexpectedly, they embark on a soul-searching journey of transformation, discovering that hope is sometimes found in the most unlikely ways.It's a deeply personal story as Adamo pours herself into this story and we have the distinct pleasure to sit with her to talk about the origins of the story, the challenges of being a first time director, the shared joy of the cinema of Jean Marc Vallee and so very much more...

What is your biggest failure in life? Did it stop or help your art? Actor/Writer/Director Laura Adamo is joining the conversation on Cue to Cue this week to share how the failures and pain she experienced in the past allowed her to hone her creative process. She reminds us that we can fail spectacularly because at some point in our lives, it will be a part of the key in unlocking the next step of our journey into something great. What do you do when you’re forced to face the unknown? When was the last time you learned something new and stepped outside of your comfort zone? Take a leap of faith! Laura reiterates that creativity requires us to lean into vulnerability instead of running away from it. Have the courage to have an open heart and move authentically through the world. Upon her return to Toronto, Laura began writing and producing in addition to acting. Her first project was the short film DRAMA QUEEN, which she created the concept for, produced and stared in. The film screened at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL and won the bronze medallion award at the HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. She went on to produce and star in LAST CALL, a feature film that screened at THE BIG APPLE FILM FESTIVAL and won the audience choice award at THE SAN DIEGO FILM FESTIVAL which led to a distribution deal with Moving Pictures in the USA. Adamo then turned her attention to television. She has created 5 scripted series and one lifestyle documentary food series. Her lifestyle show FAMILY SECRETS was in development with Paperny films and the pilot was shot by Douglas Arrowsmith. Her first scripted series CATTLE CALL, a half hour comedy, went into development with CITY TV where she shot a pilot directed by Ron Murphy. Her second series BAIT, went into development with BUCK PRODUCTIONS and had a pilot script ordered by MUCH MUSIC. Laura’s current project is the feature film THE WISHING TREE, which she wrote, and starred in. THE WISHING TREE just premiered at FILMOCRACY FEST, the new festival by Jon Fitzgerald, who is the co-founder of THE SLAMDANCE FILM FESTIVAL where it won the AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD.
