In this episode, I speak with Nolan Kipling. Nolan is a welder, public speaker, writer, craftsman and he’s had a harrowing descent into darkness in which he pulled himself into the light.In the face of childhood trauma, Nolan took to alcohol to quench his suffering. Nolan hit rock bottom and tooth and nail rose to the powerful, positive man he is today.I started hosting The Becoming Human Podcast because I was profoundly lost and entrenched in darkness. I would whittle my youth away getting as high as I possibly could. When that resulted in over dosing, being ostracized in school and eventually expelled, I realized that there was no benefit to excelling at this lifestyle. Looking elsewhere, I turned to women and being a father. At 11, I lost my virginity thinking that it would somehow fill the emptiness that lurked inside. When my insecurities exploded that relationship, I blamed the relationship without looking inward. Thinking that I should push the envelop further and prove myself, at 13 I became a step-dad and moved into my ‘new’ girlfriend’s house. After that relationship ended, I was descending further into darkness. 4 years later, my son was born and I was getting married to a raging alcoholic. I thought I could save her, I used her troubles to attempt to fulfill myself and prove my worth. This only pushed me further into darkness.Currently, I’ve pulled myself out of the dark into the light within the span of 3.5 years.
