Andrea F. Polard, Psy.D., founded and teaches Zen Psychology and Zen Psychology Therapy. She derived the approach from her book, A Unified Theory of Happiness. Her work is rooted in science and Western thought as well as in Eastern thought, especially Zen Buddhism, reflecting her multicultural background. After having started with humanistic approaches, she subsequently trained in self-psychology, system-oriented therapy, cognitive-behavioral psychology and mind-body work. Polard studied at the Freie University Berlin, focusing on creativity and non-verbal expressions, using the Facial Action Coding System to analyze the smile. Her dissertation examined the phenomenon of emigration: Leaving the Circle. She is now an independent researcher and scholar of wisdom traditions, aspiring to revitalize Zen Buddhism in form of Zen Psychology.  You can visit her website here. Clint Sabom is Creative Director of Contemplative Light. He lived in Budapest, Hungary in 2003 as a Gilman Scholar. He speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese. In 2007, he lived for six months in a silent monastery. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Religious Studies and one in Spanish literature. He has traveled extensively through Europe and South America. He has spoken and/or performed at Amnesty International, Health Conferences, High Schools, and art galleries across the US. He has studied and done in his own work in Advaita Vedanta, Buddhism, Shamanism, NLP, and hypnosis. 26. Dr. Andrea Polard on Zen Psychology Therapy

Bill welcomes author and psychologist Andrea Polard back to the show. Andrea is a life-long meditator. Her interest in psychology and happiness began early, at age sixteen. She became a Clinical Psychologist in Germany (1993) and California (2001) and was trained in Primal Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Self-Psychology, and Positive Psychology. When Andrea discovered that happiness is possible even for those who were previously traumatized, she decided to share the necessary skills. Soon she began to write A Unified Theory of Happiness: An East-Meets-West Approach to Fully Loving Your Life, which she completed over the course of twelve years. It was published by Sounds True and is an internationally published, award-winning book. Subsequently, she founded a psychotherapeutic approach, synthesizing psychology and the wisdom traditions: Zen Psychology Therapy (ZPT). She offers this approach in her Los Angeles Center for Zen Psychology. Andrea also writes a popular column for Psychology Today.
