In this first episode, Denis chats with husband &amp; wife team Julie Preston &amp; Victor Tyrrell.  Denis has known Julie for many years as one of his first yoga teachers and thought it only fitting to have her and Victor launch the show. She has over 15,000 hours experience, sharing yoga with students ranging from 3 to 98 years old.Her passion lies in sharing authentic, accessible, holistic yogic practices adapted to meet you just as you are, with a focus on helping you come back home to your true self.For Julie, yoga is a way of life that goes far beyond the physical aspects of the practice.  She loves that yoga has given her a toolkit to help manage day to day life with more peace, grace and connection.Julie’s first taste of yoga was back in 1997 when her life had arrived at a crossroads and her health and wellbeing were at an all time low. Her experience of yoga at that time gave her a sense of inner peace that she’d never experienced before, and has kept her coming back to her mat ever since.In 2006 she waved goodbye to a high-flying London career and took off on an incredible journey of learning and self-discovery through Europe, USA, and Canada before arriving in India where she immersed herself in living a yogic life at an ashram in Kerala where she gained her first 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teaching Certification.Since then Julie’s dedicated yoga journey has taken her all over the globe, immersing herself in studying, practising, and gaining specialist qualifications. She has studied with many of the most highly regarded teachers in the world today, in a wide range of styles and approaches that have given her the necessary tools to meet students exactly as they are, as well as going deeper into her own personal development.Julie holds a 200 &amp; 500 hour Yoga Alliance Advanced Teaching Qualification in Hatha Yoga, a 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Certification, as well as specialist qualifications in Yoga Nidra, Pregnancy &amp; Post Natal Yoga, Chair Yoga, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy and Nutrition and Children’s Yoga.Julie grew up studying music to degree level, and discovered Kirtan on her yoga journey - it's also how she met her musician husband Vic!  Together they lead the TruYou Kirtan Sessions - a musical call and response form of chanting for healing and meditation that quietens the mind, and opens the heart.  They've had the honour of performing several times with grammy-nominated international Kirtan artist Dave Stringer, and spend time annually with their Kirtan mentor, Jai Uttal, one of the most well-known and beloved kirtan artists in the world today.When Julie isn't busy practising and teaching yoga, she loves time in nature, pottering in the garden and growing her own organic veg, cooking healthy plant-based meals, and walking her rescued Bali street dog, Chani.  She loves nothing more than hanging out with her husband Vic reading inspiring books, or just catching a fun movie together, with Chani cuddles on the sofa.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/spacesbetweenus/message

Episode One with Julie Preston & Victor Tyrrell

As many of you know, Inga, Andy and I have been attempting to house and pet sit our way through North America for a year. As much as people we meet say that it is such a wonderful idea and way to travel, we had never met another house sitter before in person. That was until we met my guest today, Julie Preston, at a park in Frisco, Colorado, and we formed a friendship immediately. There were so many similarities with our journeys. We were both traveling with a child, we love the variety and experiences new towns bring, and more importantly, we all adored animals. But as our friendship grew over the months it became apparent that Julie and her husband Dean were doing this for different reasons to Inga and I. Julie has been house and pet sitting, on and off, for over a decade, and it was something that she continued to do when she first met Dean. They paused for a few years until Dean was laid off from his work due to the crash in the economy, a week before their daughter Abby was born. They started housesitting again, as they needed to reinvent the wheel for their family. Where Inga and I are housesitting so we can afford to travel for a year. Julie and Dean needed to house sit again so they could afford to live. I admire Julie and Dean on so many levels. They have turned an awful life circumstance into a wonderful blessing, and one that allows them to travel and spend more time with their daughter, Abby. It is not easy and there are many challenges that they face by choosing this lifestyle, but they understand, that for now, this transit lifestyle, the experiences, the education, outweighs the challenges. We cover so much in this episode including housesitting due to the economy, life on the road with a seven-year-old daughter, finding stability, the challenges with a non-digital job on the road, finding free activities to do in each community and so much more.
