Fred Hiatt appears at the 2013 Library of Congress National Book Festival. Speaker Biography: Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor of The Washington Post and frequent columnist about human rights and foreign affairs, is the author most recently of "Nine Days," a novel for young adults based in part on a true story of two Washington-area teens who set off for Asia to rescue the girl's father when he disappears during a trip to Hong Kong. Hiatt will appear with Ti-Anna Wang, 24, the daughter of a Chinese dissident who was sentenced to life in prison 11 years ago. Ti-Anna has been fighting for his freedom ever since, and her struggled helped inspire "Nine Days." Hiatt has been with The Post since 1981. He has covered government, politics, development and other issues in Fairfax County and statewide in Virginia. He later covered military and national security affairs on the newspaper's national staff. From 1987 to 1990, he and his wife were co-chiefs of The Post's Tokyo bureau, and from 1991 to 1995 they served as correspondents and co-bureau chiefs in Moscow.
