Fans of European brewing know that the Belgians do things a little differently to other regions, which is all right by me! Today we chat with Annelies Nijskens and Jimmy Van Eetvelde from Madocke Brewing.A Belgian couple, Annelies came to Australia for a school, exchange at 17 and always wanted to return. The couple had an engineering firm in Belgium but Jimmy found something a little disheartening about making something well and with pride, only to have it hidden in a cupboard of behind a false wall. He decided he wanted to make beer instead. Annelies persuaded a reluctant Jimmy to up their life and move to Australia, with Jimmy only agreeing if he could make beer...the result is a Belgian brewery on Queensland’s Gold Coast.It’s been a long year 2021, and there has been a lot happening in this post-craft world of ours. We've got a special interview for you today with one of the country's up and coming breweries, that many of you outside the Gold Coast will never have heard of; Madocke. Special thanks to Dylan for conducting this interview in my absence &amp; to Annelies for giving up some of her evening to have a chat. Her story (&amp; husband Jimmy's) from Belgium to one of the most unusual breweries you've seen to a soon to open brewery &amp; taproom in Ashmore is one of the most unique in an industry where stories often seem to be cut from the same cloth. With the opening of their new facility I think people beyond the Gold Coast will soon be hearing a log more about these fantastic people making wonderful beer!
