Alzheimer's disease is one of the world's leading causes of death, with 50 million people suffering from the disease worldwide. The global pharmaceutical industry has spent billions of dollars on drug R&amp;D but 99% of clinical trials have failed. Part of the reason could be that most drug developers have focused on targeting beta amyloid, a protein that accumulates in the brain of Alzheimer's patients. This approach has not worked out so far, but scientists have been exploring other theories about the disease and developing treatments based on these other theories. Cerecin (formerly known as Accera) is a global healthcare company focusing on developing novel treatments for neurological disorders.
