Gauhar Aftab is the CEO at Foundation for Youth Employment Pakistan (FYEP) and a dear friend. Over the years I have seeked Gauhars Guidance and direction over many aspects of my life. Whether it be spirituality or art or the purpose of existence.    Gauher Aftab has held leadership roles at companies involved in education, advertising, financial services, telecom, and various tech industries. In his previous position he helped to scale CarFirst, an auto sector startup, in under two years to 300 full-time employees and a million dollars in monthly topline. Prior to that he has worked as an adviser and consultant for the KP Education Support Program to develop training and curriculum for new teaching staff; and was a co-founder of CFx Comics, where he launched Pakistan’s 1st Urdu comics platform and a primary years children’s reading app, as well as implementing several social and behavioral change communications projects including a comic book series to counter extremist narratives among young adults and adolescents.

Gauher Aftab is the Founder and Program Director at Lahore Students Union (LSU), a youth center for community service, extra-curricular activities and educational counseling. He is also a partner at CFx Comics, one of Pakistan’s pioneering digital entertainment company that has produced illustrated and animated content for education and various social issues. He is the author of the internationally acclaimed Paasban; graphic novel series in June 2015. On the Mic #1: GAUHER AFTAB | Tackling Radicalism | Youth Empowerment

For my podcast, Intersections Radio, I’m doing a series on South Asian comic/graphic/cartoon artists who use their talent and artwork for social justice. This is the first in the series: Gauher Aftab is one of the creators of the Pakistani comic series, Paasban – The Guardian. The back story and intent of this comic is as impressive as the actual series: the CFX Comics team aims to combat terrorism and radicalization in young people in Pakistan through comics, not through violence.This project was catalyzed after the devastating massacre of the school in Peshawar, Pakistan – in which more than 150 people were killed, most of whom were children. As a young person, Gauher found himself on the path of radicalization and can relate personally. The team also conducted data-driven research to investigate how young people receive information and think about it critically. For those with Urdu fluency, you can access the comics online for free.
