Join us today for a rebuilding conversation from two points of view as we interview staff member Jeanine Winfrey, an immigration lawyer who leads the Immigration Counseling Services at our Community Center, and dedicated volunteer, VC member, attorney and Eric's motorcycle-trail-riding-friend, Eric Rosenberg.Eric Rosenberg has attended Vineyard Columbus since 2001. He is an attorney who enjoys volunteering inside and outside the church and spending time with his twin daughters who are sophomores at OSU.Jeanine Winfrey holds a BA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She began her legal career in 1999 at the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in Washington DC, and then spent 14 years with the US Air force, first as an assistant staff judge advocate, and later as a military spouse and stay-at-home parent. Jeanine is currently the Director of Immigration Counseling Services at Vineyard Community Center, a faith-based non-profit that provides low cost and pro-bono legal services to immigrant community in central Ohio. In this episode, Jeanine shares her own immigration story from Vietnam and how her lived experiences fuels her work representing DACA clients and people seeking asylum in the US. She discusses the intersection and challenges of her immigration work and her faith and her hope for the church as a place of welcome. “In all of us, we would hope that the Holy Spirit would allow us to discern what laws need to be examined through the lens of biblical justice and need to be changed proactively through advocacy for immigration reform,” Jeanine says. “How do we address these issues in a way that honors everybody involved?”“We’re not trying to win a fight. We are trying to reconcile.” Jeanine attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate education. She then went on to complete her law degree at Georgetown University.
