Willy Østreng is a political scientist specializing in international affairs with a focus on the polar regions, ocean affairs, and international security. He is President of the Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research and served formerly as the executive director of the Fridtjof Nansen Institute and the scientific director of the Center for Advanced Studies at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
