A native Aussie from our shared city of Sydney she packed her bags for NYC to pursue a dream of being a jazz singer. Seven pop albums later with appearances on Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon, SNL and Good Morning America as well as performances with music industry greats such as Sting, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Billy Joel it’s fair to say her foot is firmly in the door. Ever the creative spirit she began seeing her music as images and started drawing each of her songs into available pieces of art creating her project ‘Natchie’. With a retail store in Chelsea Market and partnerships with numerous brands she continues to draw, paint, sculpt, write, perform and sing her dreams.

Australian born singer, songwriter, illustrator, and entrepreneur Nadia Ackerman moved to NYC from Sydney in 1998 to pursue her passion for singing and has been taking the “Big Apple” by storm ever since! With five albums under her belt, appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, SNL and Good Morning America, she has also performed with  Sting, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Billy Joel. In 2012, Nadia’s story took an unexpected twist. She began to see her songs as images and felt an overwhelming desire to draw her music which turned into an unexpected and wildly successful new career. Although she was already a jazz singer by the age of 20, it wasn’t so much the scene in New York that called to her at first so much as it was the American TV shows she loved, like The Brady Bunch. But after spending a summer in New York, she knew there was no going home. What she didn’t realize is that she had brought a dark part of her past with her on the journey, and it wasn’t until years later that she came to terms what had sent her running in the first place. Here she shares her story, through music, becoming a songwriter, then an illustrator, a shop owner and brand developer, and ultimately confronting the abuse that she suffered as a child in Australia (and that she had completely blocked for most of her life, until it was impossible to avoid any longer).
