Today on the Dads with Daughters Podcast I spoke with father and musician Derek Lersch. We talk about fatherhood and how being a #Girldad has truly impacted his music.  Lersch knew he needed a song about his daughter to round out his EP, 100 Proof. “Being a girl dad is a special title and it comes with a lot of responsibility,” says Lersch. “The relationship between a girl and her dad is very crucial and special. It’s my job as her father to show her how to love and be loved, to teach her how a man should treat her like the princess that she is and love her unconditionally. How Being A Girl Dad Influenced His Music with Derek Lersch

Derek Lersch sits down with me to talk about his fatherhood journey. We get to talk about his song, “Girl Dad” that he wrote when he found out his wife was pregnant. Derek shares the values he looks to instill into his daughter as she is growing up. Next, we talk about his music and what inspired him to become a musician. In addition Derek shares his creative process when he is writing music. Lastly, we finish the interview off with the Fatherhood Quick Five. About Derek LerschPassion for music and drive to succeed took Derek from performing Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” at age 3 for family to now having performed over 350 shows in four years. Opening for acts like Rodney Atkins, Jay Allen, and others as well as performing at Raymond James Stadium and Amalie Arena, Derek thrives on the big stage. In 2015, Derek attended Full Sail University to obtain his Music Business Degree. During this time, he tried out for American Idol and after advancing through a few rounds he unfortunately did not advance. That only pushed him to work harder on his dream. “I love being told no. What’s more motivating than that?”After graduation, Derek moved to Nashville to further his career in the Music Business. After spending a year in Nashville working at iHeartRadio, he moved back to Bradenton, FL in 2017 to continue working in the entertainment industry and continue his music dream.
