Every human being at some point will have experiences in life where things will go terribly wrong. The “normal” of life will be upset and the proverbial wheels will fall off. Most of these situations we encounter cannot be explained, sudden life-threatening illness, a car wreck, accidental death, natural disasters, a miscarriage and so on. When we face these awful situations our normal gets disrupted and we can become disoriented. A lament is a passionate prayer of grief or sorrow that might be able to help us give words to our feelings.

In biblical times, the priest had direct access to God. Through prayer, leading worship and serving others, the priest was responsible for helping others to follow in the ways of God. The area that separated the priest from the common person was the veil between the Holiest of Holies and the rest of the church. When Christ died, the veil was torn, and we were granted direct access to God, which also gives us access to the responsibility to serve others and lead them to Christ. Today, we want to have personal interaction with God, but many times we assume the pastor of the church is the one who does all the ministry. We all want the access, are we willing to accept the responsibility that comes with it?
